Glowing Beaches – the Blue Tide

Glowing beaches, the blue tide is also known in the science community as the natural chemical reaction called bioluminescence. This phenomena occurs when microorganisms in the water get in contact with oxygen. Many creatures use bioluminescence to find mates, or to attract prey similar to the North American firefly, light is produced via a chemical reaction which gets in contact with oxygen.

During different times of the year in many areas around the world glowing beaches can be spotted as the night-time glow is a side-effect of blooming red alga, also known as red tide, glowing beautiful at night, but producing murky waters during the day….
